Deborah has worked as a registered nurse for 30 years. Her extensive nursing background includes experience in critical care, emergency medicine, flight nursing, trauma nursing, education, stroke, neurology and a variety of administrative positions. In 2011, she moved into the role of stroke coordinator for an acute care facility, where she enjoyed both administrative and clinically shared roles. She was honored to be chosen to participate on the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) test-writing committee for the newly released Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) Exam. In addition, Deborah and a small team were selected by the AANN to present a preconference workshop entitled “Stroke Coordinator Orientation: Superhero, Costume Optional” at the 2015 Annual Educational Conference in Nashville, TN. Under her direction, the stroke department wrote several exemplars for her facility’s Magnet certification and was recognized as a center of excellence in the facility’s Magnet site survey. In 2014, Deborah officially moved into the role of nurse practitioner in stroke and neurology. More recently, she has enjoyed serving as a nurse practitioner in a rural family practice setting.
