Course Description

This program is designed to assist medical professionals who care for the child with neurological diagnoses and related complications. Topics covered will enable the participant to increase understanding of how pediatric neurological disorders are diagnosed and managed, where and when children are referred for needed therapies and what prognosis holds. It will also provide an overview of neurologic conditions, evaluation and treatment options. The diagnosis and practice of neurology is complex due to the variation within disorders, however, the use of case presentations in this seminar will provide a comprehensive, clear overview of common and uncommon neurological problems.

Program Learning Outcomes

This program prepares the learner to:

  • Understand the fragile newborn brain and how various injuries can result in neurological complications.
  • Identify various modalities used in the management of the child with cerebral palsy.
  • Describe childhood epilepsies, treatment options and outcomes.
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of genetic disorders that have neurological implications.
  • Improve recognition of the early signs of autism using the new DSM-V diagnostic criteria.

Agenda

Sign-in begins at 7:30 am. The day includes a one-hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each. The order of lectures presented and break times may vary according to speaker preference.
